Letter written to friend John Henry Alexander in Baltimore, Maryland, discussing the character of the population in Winston County, Mississippi, after the Choctaw Purchase; lack of opportunity for practicing law in the area; high profits expected for real estate investments in Mississippi and Texas; and the prospect of independence for Texas as an inducement for people to move to that area.
